IT architecture -
TOGAF Consultancy

The benefit of a clearly defined architecture at either point solution or overall enterprise level is that it enables the gap between business requirement and solution delivery to be clearly bridged.

Oakleigh Consulting's technology division numbers accredited architects who specialise in the production of such architectures.

Our architectural approach also means that every aspect of a solution is considered - this holistic view means that aspects such as subsequent systems management and security are incorporated into the solution from the very start. The use of an architectural framework in the design of IT architecture ensures the above benefits are realised.

Oakleigh uses The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) in its IT architecture work with clients. TOGAF comprises a set of methods and tools for developing a broad range of different IT architectures, providing a reliable and practical method for defining business needs and developing an architecture that meets those needs. It is an open, generic framework which is neutral to the use of any specific tools and technologies, enabling the eventual use of the best solution for the particular needs of the client.

TOGAF helps produce:

  • Well integrated solution portfolios
  • Clearly defined interfaces
  • Reduced complexity
  • Better managed IT services

Through the use of TOGAF our consultants have the ability to manage the complete architecture lifecycle - from the initial introduction & visioning of the conceptual architectures to the full specification, implementation and governance of the completed architectures. By using a phased approach we ensure that clients make good decisions about their business structures and IT.

The combination of simplicity and depth delivered by TOGAF further enables client IT teams to clearly engage with their business colleagues and show logical and reasoned decisions for IT based on real business needs - invaluable when building business cases for internal investment in new architecture. TOGAF has been enthusiastically adopted by many large organisations such as HBOS, Norwich Union, Raytheon, DHP and the UK DWP.

Oakleigh can bring this expertise to your organisation with immediate effect. Oakleigh's TOGAF consultancy delivers real value through simplicity and independence, providing honest, unequivocal advice and guidance.

Supporting Clients

  • Our TOGAF expertise was recently used to great effect in a project to advise a UK Central Government Department on improving their current IT Architecture and its use. This review was driven by a move to a multi-site operation, and the Oakleigh team were responsible for defining the technology route map, the plan to achieve it, and to provide input to the client business case for the project.
  • Oakleigh recently used its TOGAF expertise to deliver an assessment of the requirements for and recommended architecture for a country-wide system for the quality assurance of healthcare education. Although the key stakeholders were not technical, they could clearly see how the architectural recommendations were related to their requirements, describing the report as "refreshing" and as "bringing clarity to the topic which was previously absent".

"An independent, honest, external view is essential to any organisation seeking to respond to the changing business environment and achieve its mission to deliver the best possible service. Oakleigh consulting have these attributes and made a significant contribution in assisting us to attain our on-going developmental goals."
